The Czech Association for African Studies is an association of professional academics in African Studies, graduates of master's study in the field and supporters from related disciplines. It is part of the academic community of the Czech Republic and a registered association under Czech law.
CAAS informs its members and wider audiences about developments in African Studies in the Czech Republic and worldwide, publishes the journal Modern Africa and organises conference activity including Viva Africa.
Long-Term Goals
Promote research and teaching of African Studies in the Czech Republic.
Facilitate contacts among scholars in African Studies and related fields in the Czech Republic and abroad.
Represent Czech African Studies in public and international networks and support cooperation with similar organisations.
Popularise research findings in African Studies among the general public and support broader engagement with Africa.

Membership
Membership remains one of the central ways to participate in CAAS. Explore benefits, categories, application and fees through the sections below.
All CAAS members have the right to take part in General Assembly meetings, be informed about the activities of the association, participate in member activities and contribute to their preparation.
Members may receive association publications free of charge or at a reduced price and submit suggestions supporting the quality of African Studies. Full and honorary members additionally have the right to vote and to be elected to the governing bodies of the association.
Membership in the Association
Open to persons with completed higher education in the field or a related discipline who support the development of African Studies.
Open to individuals or legal entities active in African Studies or materially supporting the field.
Intended mainly for BA or MA students in African Studies and related fields, or BA graduates active in the field.
Awarded to Africanists who have contributed to the development of Czech African Studies and its promotion in Africa and abroad.
To apply for CAAS membership, complete the application form. Full membership applications must also include recommendations from two current full members and a short academic CV.
Request application formThe admission of new members is decided by the Presidium of CAAS. Honorary membership is approved by the General Assembly following a proposal from a full member and the consent of the nominee.
